Laura Petrovich-Cheney, Barn Razing, 2012, salvaged barn wood, boat wood & fencing, 36" x 36" x 1"

Ideas begin on walks. I give value to objects that are normally ignored, stepped on, tossed in a garbage pile or washed up upon the shores as debris. Here, this piece is created by combined salvaged barn wood, boat wood, and picket fencing. By playing with balance and surfaces of the wood, I created new relationships with color and texture. Creating orderly patterns out of randomly found and discarded materials allows me to deal with the ambiguities of life.
