Laura Petrovich-Cheney, Just Passing Through, 2011, maple & oak wood, 48 ½” x 40”x 37 ¾

Here are several tree hollows. Empty – destroyed by insects, disease, weather and time. For me, they have become metaphors into my own morality. These empty trees have provided me with a transformation of consciousness to my own existence; an awakening, understanding and integrating that all living things transform. The transformation happens internally and externally. These trees were small and new and now they are just part of the lived experience. They are part of the tangible world of the land, the intangible world of light, sky, and air and the eternal forces of growth and death, which make up the cycles of seasons and life.
