Claire Giblin, The Lost Year (2007), 2008, acrylic, ink, on canvas; pigment on paper mounted on canvas, 72' x 39"

The carrion eater gives to the earth by recycling what is considered unlovely. My year of personal (emotional and physical) losses is depicted and now reconciled in my mind and heart. The central piece of the work is covered by a ruined painting which I was able to salvage and adhere to the canvas. There are words and text inscribed in pencil along the edges of the pieces of paper.
