Avant Garde Dating was a week-long, full-residency, Internet-matched collaborative performance/residency.
During the week-long collaboration/residency/performance, the artists created framed performances each day. This piece was presented on the final day, after much strained communication. Collaborator: Tanya Ury.
Two women sit at adjacent sides of a small, square table. One of them starts to sew a very large circle, slowly, with small, red, simple hand stitches on a white cloth. After a short while the second performing woman starts unpicking the work of the first, removing all the stitches, pulling her chair up closer, while the first performer pulls her chair away, to continue the circle. When they reach the half-way mark, the performers exchange roles of stitcher and unpicker. This continues until the circle is completed, leaving no trace of the hour-long action.
