Personal Statement

My paintings explore the boundaries between realism and abstraction.

I aim to capture how we perceive each other in modern life, with its fast pace, urban chaos, and profusion of electronic media. My themes concern the fragmentary nature of perception, the selectivity of memory, and the heightened awareness that exists between the artist and subject. My work often includes glitched or pixelated passages as a nod to impressionism and also as a metaphor for the impermanence of all things.

I believe that portraiture is essential tradition that enables us to recognize the dignity in all of humanity. It has been my privilege to continue this practice.

I attended the University of California, Berkeley, and studied drawing and painting at the Art Students League, New York Academy of Art, and National Academy of Design.
