I spent October 2010 at a residency in the medieval village of Ascea, Italy—Wassard Elea. I came with some ideas of what I wanted to do, but the landscape, the medieval village and the people intrigued me more than I could have imagined.
The way people dressed, their attitudes, and the places in which they lived and worked, are what these historical watercolors capture. They are my interpretation of life in the past, viewed in hindsight and use old photographs, many from my family archives.
